The OMHA Players Club is the perfect amount of hockey in the summer

Taking a break from hockey over the summer gives you time to learn new skills. There are many opportunities that exist in the off-season to try new activities and improve on your athletic ability. Coming into the new season refreshed and wanting to play hockey again serves as the best indicator of a better year ahead.

If you want to keep building and growing your hockey skillset in the off-months, try out the OMHA Players Club presented by Bauer Hockey. Designed to develop different areas of the game through three challenges, the OMHA Players Club is a great tool to stay engaged with the sport during the off-season by being able to work on your own schedule and at your own pace.

Players are provided with daily targets and total goals but are welcome to work at their own pace. By dedicating a short amount of time each day during the summer, players are able to keep hockey in their lives while still having plenty of time left to enjoy the summer. How much a player commits to a Players Club challenge daily is up to them and they can decide how much work to put in on their own.

Not only does the Players Club offer skill improvement exercises but it also teaches lessons in hard work and time commitment. Players will quickly notice an advance in skill and realize that the amount of time they dedicate to the daily goals will soon pay off. Additionally, those who submit a completed tracking sheet will be eligible for a prize from Bauer Hockey.

It is important for players to stay focused on proper technique and not simply go through the motions. Being accountable for how you approach each challenge will only benefit the player and allow them to get the most out of the practice. As well, creating a schedule for practice offers time management lessons. Planning ahead for days you can’t practice also helps in this regard. If needed, players can break up each day’s challenge into two parts.

The OMHA Players Club falls in line with Hockey Canada’s belief of celebrating achievement. Skill development should be encouraged in minor hockey and associations should ensure that success if measured beyond wins and losses.

The best part about the OMHA Players Club? It works. There have been multiple examples of coaches who have issued the challenges to their teams and seen improvement in scoring, teamwork and team unity. Goalies can stay involved too, simply team up with a partner and work together on the challenges.
