The boys from York Simcoe regain top spot in the Minor Midget rankings while there is no shake up in the Midget rankings as the Coyotes stay on top

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association has released the eighth edition of the Minor Midget & Midget AAA Top 5 Rankings Powered by Under Armour for the 2015-2016 regular season. These rankings will be released on a bi-weekly schedule.

OMHA teams were also well represented in the seventh edition of the Ontario Hockey League Minor Midget Rankings. The York Simcoe Express, Barrie Colts, Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs and Kingston Jr. Frontenacs were ranked third, seventh, eighth and tenth respectively. The North Central Predators were an honourable mention.

Duff is a big two way defenceman and is a major reason why the Jr. Frontenacs are enjoying a very successful campaign. He can play any way you like, has high-end skill and does not shy away from playing a physical game.

McMaster is an electrifying player who has the ability and speed to go coast to coast with ease. McMaster has that extra gear that teams fear and he is very good around the net.

Players to Watch

Ry Beattie - Niagara North Stars

Beattie is one of the smoothest skating defenseman in the SCTA. The undersized yet physical defenceman has been a staple to an emerging defence core for the Niagara North Stars and a major reason for the team’s mid-season turn around. Beattie excels at making the first pass out of his own end, and joins the rush as well as any defenceman in the SCTA. He rarely takes a shift off and has shown a little bit of a mean streak lately leaving opposing forwards constantly knowing where he is on the ice.

Jon Vezina - Halton Hurricanes

The 6’ plus winger is the physical leader of Halton and takes pride in playing hockey in the tough areas. Vezina is defensively responsible and has no problem getting the puck out of his own end or blocking shots should his defenceman take a shot from the point. Vezina is also the type of player who can play all 200 feet of the ice, whether it is a power play situation or the last minute of a game Vezina is on the ice.
