Breaking down barriers to get new kids to play hockey

Hundreds of Ontario families will be introduced to hockey this season, thanks to The Bauer First Shift Program.

Boys and girls, ages 6-10, not currently enrolled in hockey, are eligible to participate in the program. The First Shift will outfit participants head-to-toe in new Bauer equipment, then lead them through a six-week program introducing them to hockey basics.

“ The First Shift program has had an amazing impact on our association, in terms of growing our numbers, and bringing new energy into our program.  47 of 51 families re-enrolled in our progams last season, and we have a waiting list of 21 families.  Our on ice coordinator and his team did a fantastic job, and we look forward to hosting another program.”- Tavistock Minor Hockey Association, Ontario

The First Shift is designed to break down the barriers to entry, creating a welcoming environment for new-to-hockey families, and delivering a program that is accessible, affordable, safe and most importantly, fun! Over the course of the 10-year program, Bauer hopes to introduce 1,000,000 families to the game.
