Help underprivileged youth in Ontario through hockey

In 2000 the Minor Hockey Foundation was created to provide hockey participation opportunities for underprivileged youth in Ontario.

Apart of the Minor Hockey Foundation, the Let’s Learn Hockey Program provides underprivileged children the ability to participate in the game of hockey. Each participant is provided with new equipment, a one-day hockey orientation camp and their hockey registration paid for the following year. A lot of participants come from the Children’s Aid Society and Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

At the 2014 OMHA Annual General Meeting, Schomberg Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) pledged $1 on behalf of every registered player as a donation towards the Let’s Learn Hockey Program with the belief that no child should be turned away from a chance to play hockey due to financial constraints. With 250 registered members, SMHA donated a modest $250. Through this endeavor, SMHA is challenging the 200+ other associations in the OMHA to step-up and follow suit. This challenge has the potential to provide $100,000 annually to the Minor Hockey Foundation of Ontario and the Let’s Learn Hockey Program.
