STAGG CHILI SUPPORTS MINOR HOCKEY WITH $30,000 CONTRIBUTION

Hormel Foods, the maker of STAGG® Chili, is proud to continue its commitment for the second consecutive year as an official sponsor of the Ontario Hockey League and founder of the SAVES for SUCCESS program.  The program contributed $30,000 to minor hockey teams in Ontario and Western Canada.

Seventy teams went on-line to StaggChili.ca this year to submit a photo of teammates showing STAGG® Chili products in a fun and creative way.  Team members, friends and family went on-line to vote for their team.  Six teams in each division (Ontario and Western Canada) were awarded cash prizes to be used to fund team jerseys, ice time costs and other related minor hockey team expenses.

This year an additional voting method was established for the many players that already fuel their game with STAGG® Chili.  Specially-marked cans of STAGG® Chili contained a unique PIN printed on the reverse side of the can’s label.  Each PIN was worth one additional vote in the contest and can also be collected to use in next year’s program.

The Ontario winning teams this year were:

  • Peterborough Minor Pee Wee AE Petes
  • Hanover “Canadian Tire” Falcons
  • Ajax Knights
  • Plattsville Rage
  • Woolwich Minor Bantam A

Larry Raskin, an International Brand Manager at Hormel says it’s a fitting partnership: “A favourite winter meal from the #1 brand of chili and the #1 winter sport in Canada.  The SAVES for SUCCESS program allows us to contribute to hockey at the grass roots level in a way that is fun and allows STAGG® Chili to connect with families, communities and the game of hockey.”

According to OHL Commissioner David Branch, “The Ontario Hockey League and STAGG® Chili share the value of hockey development at the grass roots level which makes this partnership so fitting.  The STAGG® Chili Saves for Success contest is a terrific program that helps reduce minor hockey costs for participants of our great game.  Congratulations to all winning teams.”
