Whitby Jumps to Second Place in Minor Midget AAA Rankings

The Ontario Minor Hockey Association has released the fourth edition of the Minor Midget AAA Top 5 Rankings for the 2013-14 regular season.  The Hamilton Bulldogs continue their dominance this season as they are the only unbeaten Minor Midget AAA team in the OMHA.  The Whitby Wildcats are charging up the rankings after a slow start and sit in second place. York Simcoe has been gradually climbing the rankings and are sitting in the third spot.  Clarington drops slightly to fourth spot overall, while South Central rounds out the top 5 and stay in the rankings for the third straight week.

Players to Watch:
Jake O’Donnell  (Clarington Toros) – Jake is a big, mobile defenseman that plays against other teams best players and is in charge of shutting them down.  He uses his size well to close gaps quickly and to make hits on the wall, separating the man from the puck.  His active stick and awareness on the ice angles players to the outside where they are not a threat.  In 14 games this season he has put up 7 points and 26 minutes in penalties.

Christopher Paquette (Kingston Jr. Frontenacs) – Matthew is a strong offensive threat for Jr. Frontenacs this season and the opponent must know when he is on the ice.  He has good offensive skills and vision, making him a dangerous player from the blue line in.  His explosive speed and powerful stride allow him to gain open ice where he can get his hard shot off.  He has 23 points this season and will continue to put up great numbers as the year goes on.

Jake Lawr (Halton Hurricanes) – Lawr is a big athletic goaltender that shows very little to opposing shooters during games as he fills the net so well.  He gives his Hurricane teammates confidence when he plays as he is able to cover any mistakes they might make.  Pucks seem to stick to him as he allows very few second chances.  In 7 games this season he holds a 5-2-0 record with a 2.00 G.A.A.  He gives Halton a chance to win each time he plays.
