Georges Vanier - AAA Champions Major-General Georges-Philéas Vanier was a Canadian soldier and diplomat who in 1959 was appointed as Governor General of Canada by Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, on the recommendation of Prime Minister of Canada John Diefenbaker. He occupied the post until his death in 1967. The George Vanier Trophy was first won by Kingston in the 1967-68 season.
