Stoney Creek Bantam AE, International Silver stick Champions

Sunday, February 03, 2013

Stoney Creek, ON: -  January 13th, 2013 the Stoney Creek Bantam AE Jr. Warriors won the 14th Annual International Silver Stick Championship. This win was possible only after first qualifying by winning a Regional Silver Stick tournament. There are 26 Canadian Regional and 19 United States Regional tournaments in various divisions. Stoney Creek won the Ontario Central Regional tournament hosted by New Tecumseth December 30th. During this tournament the Jr. Warriors played in round robin play Ancaster Avalanche tie 1-1, Woolwich Wildcats win 3-1, TNT Tornados win 5-0, Oakville Rangers AE Group 2 [semi-final] win 4-3 in Overtime during the second 1 on 1, and Brampton 45`s [championship] win 5-4 during 4 on 4 Overtime. Stoney Creek finished this tournament with a 4-0-1 record, with 18 GF and only 9 GA. After beating Brampton in the Championship game, Brampton received an invitation to the International Silver Stick Championship.

The 16 teams for the International Silver Championship hosted by Pelham were placed in Groups of four. The OMHA Tri-County League was well represented with four teams being placed in the 4 team groupings. All four teams made it through to the final four in Semi-Finals [Oakville Rangers, Orangeville Flyers, Brampton 45`s and Stoney Creek Warriors]. These four teams hold the top four places in Tri-County League standings. During round robin play Stoney Creek faced Dorchester Dragons win 2-1, Cleveland Sharks win 7-2, Cadillac Vikings [Michigan] win 8-0, Quarter Finals Naperville Sabres [Illinois], Brampton 45`s Semi-Final win 4-2 and Orangeville Flyers Championship win 4-3. The Jr. Warriors finished the tournament with a perfect 6-0-0 record and 28 GF, 8 GA.

This was a very proud coaching moment for the entire coaching staff. The Jr. Warriors played some great team hockey and seemed to get stronger throughout the tournament game by game. Even more special is the fact that each year, after all the Silver Stick Finals Tournaments are completed, a plaque is placed in the Hockey Hall of Fame in a display case listing the team names of all the Champions for that year.

Team roster is made up of Jesse DeLuca, Ryan Dorr, Ethan Fedak, Christopher Gennaccaro, Jacob Gallagher, Joe Giammarco, Jordan Gillis, Brandon Hirst, Reece Kisel, Aidan Kwok, Matthew McDonald, Andrew Nott, Quinn Perrault, Matthew Rampado, Matthew Speight, Adam Villella, Jarod Young. Coach Staff Greg Gillis, Paul Villella, Steve Speight, Steve Nott, Trainer Frank Gennaccaro and Manager Anne Rampado.
