Oakville Rangers Peewee AE Win 2013 International Silver Stick Final

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Oakville, ON: -  The Oakville Rangers Peewee AE hockey team has been on fire for the last few weeks. After winning the Georgina Regional Silver Stick in early December, the boys went to the Ottawa Bell Capital Cup after Christmas, where they won Bronze playing at the A level. All of this was just preparation for the real goal of the Silver Stick Final at Pelham in January, which the Georgina win qualified them for.

The event featured teams from across North America, all of whom had to win one of the 16 regional qualifying events in order to be invited. The boys got off to a strong start with an 8-2 victory versus the Petrolia Oilers, but came out flat in a 1-0 loss to the Kent Ohio Cyclones later that first day. The team regrouped, and rebounded well the next day. The Rangers dominated the San Jose Jr. Sharks 13-0, then defeated the Delco Phantoms 11-1 in the quarterfinal. The semi-final on Saturday saw the Rangers line up against the always tough Barrie Colts. A very close match eventually saw the Oakville team pull away 4-1, to set up a rematch with the Kent Cyclones in the Championship game on Sunday.

Not to be denied, the Rangers came out flying in the final, playing a strong team game, and shutting out the Ohio squad by a score of 4-0. The win gave the Rangers the Peewee AE 2013 International Silver Stick Championship, which will be recognized in the Hockey Hall of Fame in June.

The Rangers received rock-solid goaltending all the way from Max Perry and Ethan Enright, with lots of offence throughout the four day weekend from forwards Adam Nicholson, Daniel Littlejohn, James Johannesson, Ben Ecclestone, David Hayman, Jordan Gamble, Michael Syrota, Rogan Doyle and Ryan Skjarum. Meanwhile, the defence corps of Aidan Williams, Chris Nurmi, Aidan Ecclestone, Caleb Walker, Eli St. James and Mac Sinclair held strong in their zone.

The Oakville Rangers Peewee AE team is coached by Dave Skjarum, with assistants Sean Doyle, Cam Sinclair and Luke St. James. Steve Nicholson is the trainer, and Paul Enright manages the team.
