OMHA Minor Midget AAA Top Five Rankings – Barwell and Rangers Hold Top Spot
Thursday, December 06, 2012
Richmond Hill, ON: -
The Ontario Minor Hockey Association has released the fifth edition of the Minor Midget AAA Top Five Rankings for the 2012-13 regular season. With the continued strong play of the Oakville Rangers there is no real surprise that they continue to sit atop the rankings for another edition. If their play continues down this path [there are no signs it won’t] it seems hard to believe they will be knocked off any time soon. With that being said there are many teams looking to steal that top spot from the Rangers. After seeing the Barrie Jr. Colts go 3-0 this past weekend at the OMHA AAA Showcase they jump up to the number two spot. A new team has emerged on to the rankings and they are the Brampton 45’s. The 45’s have quietly compiled a great record and winning three of their last four was enough for our panel to put them in the top five of the OMHA Minor Midget AAA Teams.
The bi-weekly OMHA Minor Midget AAA Top five Rankings are selected by a panel of Ontario Hockey League scouts.
OMHA Minor Midget Top 5 Rankings – Fifth Edition
Honourable Mention:
York Simcoe Express [9-4-4]
Whitby Wildcats [14-5-2]
Halton Hurricanes [12-5-1]
ETA/SCTA Players to Watch:
Jesse Barwell [Oakville Rangers] - Jesse is red hot right now and continues to put up consistent offensive numbers. He had one goal and one assist in a win over Burlington on November 26th. Barwell currently leads the SCTA in goals with 15 and is second in total points with 30.
Jake Smith [South Central] - Jake had an extremely strong Whitby Silver Stick tournament finishing in the top 15 in scoring. This past weekend at the OMHA AAA Showcase he had a very good game against Barrie. Even with his team losing that game he was one of, if not, the best player on the ice and had his team’s lone goal. He gets consistent minutes on both the power play and penalty kill for the Coyotes.
Ryan Heeps [Oshawa Minor Generals] -Ryan just recently returned to the line-up after missing close to a month. This past weekend Heeps had a big game against the Peterborough Jr. Petes where he put up two goals and two assists. When he is going offensively so is his team he is the offensive catalyst for the Minor Generals.
