Tuesday, November 17, 2009 Stoney Creek, ON: - The Minor Atom AA Stoney Creek Warriors have had a very successful start to their season, winning tournament titles both on the road in Burlington and and at home in front of family and friends. The team first travelled to Burlington for their Thanksgiving tournament. The team had a tough start, with many players not feeling well, but kept working harder and getting stronger each game. They progressed through to the semi finals to face the Newmarket Redmen. In a back-and-forth game the Warriors came from behind to take a 3 to 2 lead. Playing two men short for 2 minutes very late in the game, a truly gritty performance preserved the win. In the final, the Warriors would take on a London team they lost to on day one of the tournament. The Warriors were able to triumph this time and defeated the London Jr. Knights 3 to 1 to take the title. With all the kids back together, an excellent team effort was put forth and the boys brought home the championship!
PHOTO: The Warriors First Tournament Win of the Season The Warriors won their second straight tournament championship just this past weekend, this time, they had the pleasure of winning it all in front of family and friends at the 26th Annual Stoney Creek Tournament of Champions. The team won 5 straight games over the Hamilton Tigers, Ancaster, Hamilton Spitfires, Copper Cliff [Sudbury] and Amherst NY. Over the 5 games the team only allowed 5 goals against displaying outstanding team defense in each of the games.
